Nefful – the Dumb can’t be healed

People will pay anything as long as there is a good story behind it. Sell a piece of rock and call it magic and people will pay top dollar for it.

http://www.yelp.com/topic/san-francisco-nefful-negative-ion-clothing

someone emailed me this link and I find it interesting enough to share. Especially to a comment one of the user made:

fascinating dialogue. back on topic, has the original poster ever bothered to check http://www.nefful.co.jp orhttp://www.neffulusa.com ? there are multiple contact numbers there.

speaking of the website, i noticed that nefful products now include shampoos, conditioners, nutritional supplements, and an EXCLUSIVE nefful clothing line. prices are on the website for anybody interested. also, you can find information on “the nefful business plan”, read “success stories” of the top distributors of nefful products (not stories of successful patient recoveries, mind you), and even register for the 2009 Nefful Gala at the beverly hills hilton (nothing but the best for nefful peddlers).  can somebody say Amway under a (pseudo)-scientific guise?

the real problem lies in the “negative ion science”. the “irrefutable scientific documentation” quotes the New York Times (not even close to a peer-reviewed scientific journal), a USDA study on dust (presumably relating to the ionic air purifiers, which is another hoax that has been documented to increase ozone in ambient air), and finally…here’s the clincher: *one* study in *one* UK hospital showing that negative ions from a *machine* “dramatically reduced” the incidence of infections. by the way, this study was nowhere to be found on PubMed, arguably the single most comprehensive database of scientific literature, be it biological, medical, or otherwise, in the world.  as anybody trained in the sciences know, this data has not been replicated reliably or even demonstrated to *work* in human beings. this is hardly “irrefutable”.

now your mother, friend’s great-uncle, father’s second cousin, or cat may have all tried nefful with success, but this “data” is just that–anecdotal evidence. this data would never hold up under rigorous scientific study. which is fine. there are many things that science has not and cannot prove. but when nefful, inc. spreads all this hogwash about the claimed mechanism of “negative ion technology”, and “educates” all its distributors in this manner, they are propagating deceit. in other words, they are lying. and remember what your kindergarten teacher said about lying? i’ll remind you: it’s bad and misleading and reflects poorly on your character.

so as r “rad” p and Christina C. bicker on about how everybody is “close-minded” and “talking down”, calling people “idiots” and using foul language to scold their internet peers from afar, the facts are there. i am not “talking shit about shit i don’t know”–i’ve clearly pointed out that nefful is misleading the public with shoddy scientific data.

again, until i see a double-blind placebo controlled study, anything that anybody says is pure marketing.

to put my money where my mouth is: i am a physician and, along with many close relatives, have personally tried nefful in the “proper way” with varying results. by definition, “irrefutable science” cannot work half of the time. i am no longer
a consumer of nefful products.

Singaporean man sucks

Came across this whilst surfing the net.

http://www.razor.tv/site/servlet/segment/main/news/77734.html

To summarize it, it basically says that singapore man sucks, period. I would like to defend for the men.

Firstly, woman ask for equalities. we give it to them. We treat them like a male counterpart, meaning, you pay for your own food and no if the toilet chair is up, you can put it down. Stop whinging. woman cannot call for gender equalities as it benefits them.

Secondly, they(meaning those girls in the videos) claim that man are stingy and money oriented. So have you ever wonder why are they like that assuming that statement is true. Its only because Singaporean woman are overly materialistic. You swarm over man who are rich and poor man can see that. Therefore we inspire to be rich, so that woman can swarm all over us. Or alternatively we go geylang and woman will also swarm all over us. Why do you think there are so many man who are marrying foreigner in Singapore and why do you think so many Singaporean woman are bitching about that.

Thirdly, woman are just hard to be friends with from a men’s point of view. Why you ask.

  1. Woman expect man to be gentlemen and treat them well.
  2. Woman expect man to pay for them even as friends
  3. Woman are draggy and long winded
  4. You can’t swear in front woman
  5. woman don’t understand crude jokes
  6. woman bitch too much
  7. Singaporean woman too materialistic(how many carry LV and lives in HDB?) Even those living in condo alot of them are double income no kids. Kudos to those who are really successful
  8. Woman like high tea(30-50 bucks) and man like Kopitiam ($1)
  9. Accidentally touch you, you think I molest you.
  10. Too much effort to be a better man in front of girls whereas I can be an equal with my mates.

To sum this up, IF I DON’T WANT TO GET INTO YOUR PANTS OR BENEFIT FROM ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, I DON’T WANT TO KNOW YOU.

Don’t expect this and that. Man don’t have to take any shit from you just because you are a woman. GET USED TO THAT

Riskiest Job in the world

Can you guess what is the riskiest job in the world? Deep sea welders,  policeman, fireman? I had thought being in the army would be the riskiest occupation but apparently its not.

It has something to do with seafood.

Still not getting it?

kk something to do with alaska

Well…. its the Alaskan fisherman.. They rake in 10 000 USD a week but have one of the highest job fatality rate. Who would have known.

And the highest paying job goes to being a surgeon. That goes to prove that brain > brawn

Australia and its robin hood economy

Thats right, once again its tax time and once again hear me rant. With all the buzz going around carbon tax and all the taxes Australians are paying, I thought it would be a great time to start ranting.

Firstly, does the robin hood(progressive tax) system work? Tax the rich to feed the poor. Well for a start, it closes the gap between the rich and poor. Secondly, it feeds the poor. Introduce more taxes like carbon tax as a reason to tax the rich even more while not really affecting the poor since they get rebate and other monetary incentives. So why are so many Australians complaining. Those people earning over 80k a year should be the ones complaining.

Now, why is this not fair? firstly, what happened to equal right? it  is obviously not very equal when someone who is in the higher tax bracket have to pay alot more tax.

Secondly, it gives absolutely no incentive for anyone to work harder except to pay more taxes.

Thirdly, since the people who had worked harder, paid more taxes, paid more medicare levy, flood tax, gst, carbon tax BLAH BLAH BLAH should be entitled to more benefits? Like priority queues in government hospital or their vote shouldbe counted as 2 vote. I guess the answer is no since the rich and poor are suppose to be equal?

Wait, hang on, if rich and poor are suppose to be equal, why are the rich paying more taxes?

Do not hate me cause i am atheist

Below are quotes by famous atheist about the religion:)

I love number 15 cause its so true lol

It’s an incredible con job when you think about it, to believe something now in exchange for something after death. Even corporations with their reward systems don’t try to make it posthumous.

1. Creationists make it sound like a ‘theory’ is something you dreamt up after being drunk all night — Isaac Asimov

2. I don’t believe in God. My god is patriotism. Teach a man to be a good citizen and you have solved the problem of life. — Andrew Carnegie

3. All thinking men are atheists. — Ernest Hemingway

4. Lighthouses are more helpful then churches. — Benjamin Franklin

5. Faith means not wanting to know what is true. — Friedrich Nietzsche

6. The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one. — George Bernard Shaw

7. Say what you will about the sweet miracle of unquestioning faith, I consider a capacity for it terrifying and absolutely vile. — Kurt Vonnegut

8. I believe in God, only I spell it Nature. — Frank Lloyd Wright

9. Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest. — Denis Diderot

10. A man is accepted into a church for what he believes and he is turned out for what he knows. — Samuel Clemens

11. The whole thing is so patently infantile, so foreign to reality, that to anyone with a friendly attitude to humanity it is painful to think that the great majority of mortals will never be able to rise above this view of life. — Sigmund Freud

12. Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful. — Edward Gibbon

13. The church says the earth is flat, but I know that it is round, for I have seen the shadow on the moon, and I have more faith in a shadow than in the church. — Ferdinand Magellan

14. Not only is there no god, but try getting a plumber on weekends. — Woody Allen

15. It’s an incredible con job when you think about it, to believe something now in exchange for something after death. Even corporations with their reward systems don’t try to make it posthumous. — Gloria Steinem
